1.Project Brief
For this project, you will create a social media influencer profile that includes an original video and social media content across multiple (3-5) platforms. As a group, you must decide which area to focus in (e.g. fashion, gaming, beauty) and develop a coherent identity. The precise scope and reach of your profile will be agreed with your seminar tutor after the formative deadline.
2.Introduction
“Carol & her friends” is a social media influencer who focuses on the area of learning, our target audience is international students and content is mainly sharing some tips to overcome their learning problems. We have created five video and other social media contents which uploaded to 6 platforms of YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Weibo, Douyin and Bili Bili.
3.Presenting the Project
In our group project, we built an identity of a group of students who study aboard–Carol and her friends. And our target audiences are international student, a mainly Chinese student, so we use Chinese to dub the videos. But considering that there are some international students from other countries may watch our videos, we also have English subtitles for each video. We tried to display real situations when we are studying aboard in a funny style, and we shared some learning tips and tools for our audiences.
We collaborated with a stationery brand CHENGUANG and produced a collaboration notebook with our logo, and also used it as a prize for drawing. This product appeared in our social media content, not only for sponsorship but also to increase our account influence by Using their sales channels.
We posted our videos and media content across Weibo, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, bilibili and DOUYIN. Because our focus platforms are Weibo and Twitter, all social media profiles have Weibo and Twitter accounts names and links.
Group project deliverable explanation
9 minutes of video. (Four videos with an average of 1:25 seconds and one video with 3:40)
First of all, we posted a video which introduced the background of our videos production. Then, the second one is about online classes in this special period. Followed by it, the third video is about time management of studying at home in addition to online classes. As time goes by, the end of the semester was coming, therefore, the fourth video is talking about how to write an essay. And the last one is about collecting audiences’ questions and answering their questions by referring to the above video summary. Each video ends with a preview of the next video, so that our audience can have a idea and pay attention to the next video.
In the part of Weibo, we have 20 posts of about 50 words. We not only post videos but also posted some information about sweepstakes. A special post was talking about our notebook and explain our business partnership with CHENGUANG. In additions, we posted the behind-the-scenes footage of the video on Weibo and photos of our daily learning life to provide the audiences with an opportunity to know about us. Weibo account link
In the part of Twitter, the content of Twitter is the same as that of Weibo, but due to the words limit of Twitter, some posts have been split into two posts. Therefore, the number of Twitter is 27 posts of about 60 words. We created a tag called #carolstudyroom and encourage our audiences to share their study life with this tag. We also retweeted some of their tweets with comments to promote a closer engagement with them. We planned activity that creating an online study room on ZOOM, and then posted a link on Twitter. It attracted many people into our study room which was a good opportunity to advertise our channel. Twitter account link
In the part of Instagram, there are 18 posts of about 100 words on Instagram. We mainly share some life photos that can shape a natural image of a group of international students. Instagram account link
In the part of BILIBILI, not only the original videos, but we also posted the information about our activities on Weibo and have a link to the posts on Weibo. Bilibili account link
In the part of DOUYIN, because it can only upload the video of less than one minute on DOUYIN, we edited a special version for it. We picked the funniest part and removed the introduction of learning skills. Each video on DOUYIN has our logo so that we could use DOUYIN as a publicity platform. DOUYIN account link
However, due to the sudden impact of Covid-19, the original video plan was subject to the restriction and had to be adjusted. First of all, we made thorough adjustments in the selection of video types and materials. The original shooting plan was to show the theme of sharing learning skills by shooting comedy dialogues and scenes about study and life in the classroom, campus and library, and attract more audiences with our funny and exaggerated dialogues and performances. But during Covid-19, we cancelled interactions between members in the classroom and elsewhere and cancelled plans to invite local students to guest star in our video series. We adapted all the dialogues and interactive scenes to the scenes of personal home study and life, which means each member individually record different aspects of the series, such as how to manage time during home isolation and how to write essay efficiently during home isolation.
Secondly, we made adjustments to the fixed titles in the video series from the real people recording into a short cartoon. The original idea of video titles was for all the team members to say hello to the camera funnily and memorably. Still, our video titles changed to a short animation which is every member’s cartoon heads together, we recorded the voice of saying hello individually and combined all the voice of saying hello through Adobe Audition.
