Relevant Committees

Undergraduate Programme Board (UPB)

This committee is responsible for monitoring the teaching and learning in the Undergraduate Programme. It meets regularly to discuss teaching and examination arrangements and tries to solve any problems that occur during the year. It also considers special student needs and difficulties that arise during the year and takes the appropriate action. The Director of Undergraduate Programmes is Dr Claire Hart (Email: c.m.hart@soton.ac.uk).

Ethics Committee

This committee assesses all research proposals form staff and students carried out in the Academic Unit to ensure that the procedures proposed are in line with standard ethical codes for psychological research. All research and practical work carried out by staff and students must have prior ethical approval. Adequate time must be allowed for research proposals to be scrutinised by the Ethics Committee, and by the University’s Research Governance Office (for insurance and sponsorship purposes).

Staff Student Liaison Committee (SSLC)

Through the Students’ Union you will be invited to elect your Faculty representatives (Faculty Officers, Academic Presidents, Academic Vice-Presidents and Course Representatives) who co-ordinate the student voice on Faculty committees to enable your voice to be heard.  More information on the Students’ Union officers and their roles is available on the Students’ Union representation webpages.

Staff-Student liaison committees have representatives from across each programme. These committees have the role of monitoring the organisation and management of the student programmes, to note any difficulties that students may be encountering, and to take advice about ways of improving the programmes.
