PG Dip in CBT for Anxiety and Depression (IAPT)

The PG Diploma in CBT for Anxiety and Depression (IAPT) complies with the IAPT national curriculum (http://www.iapt.nhs.uk/) and the Core Competences Framework for CBT (Department of Health, 2007) – we recommend that you familiarise yourself with these documents prior to starting the course.  All modules are core.  The Diploma is accredited by BABCP at Level II – students who successfully complete the course evidence clinical competence (as assessed by the CTS-R), and are eligible for accreditation as a practitioner with BABCP.  This Diploma is completed over one year.

This PG Diploma comprises a programme of taught material and supervised clinical practice, and usually runs from October to June each year.  The taught programme usually begins with a 4 day introductory block and a day focusing on an introduction to supervision, followed by two days training (Thursday and Friday) each week.  Supervision takes place on Friday mornings from 9.00am or 11.30am in groups of 3 students for 90 minutes.  Students have directed study time after for the remainder of Friday mornings, and skills workshops on Friday afternoons.  Thursday teaching will be shared with students from other programmes.

We recommend that students download a copy of the Competences Framework.

PG Dip in CBT (Level 1)

The PG Diploma in CBT (Level 1) is for students with some CBT experience who wish to train to competence in a particular clinical area – anxiety and depression, psychosis or personality presentations.  The Diploma is accredited by BABCP at Level I – students who successfully complete the course evidence clinical competence (as assessed by the CTS-R), and most of the minimum training requirements for accreditation as a practitioner with BABCP.  This Diploma is usually completed over two years.

This PG Certificate comprises a programme of taught material from core and optional modules, and usually commences in October each year.  Supervision takes place in groups of 3 students for 90 minutes, usually on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday morning.  You will need at least three supervision modules to complete the Diploma.  Teaching will be shared with students from other programmes.

PG Cert in CBT (Advanced Level Practice)

The PG Certificate in CBT (Advanced Level Practice) is for students who are competent CBT therapists (as assessed by the CTS-R), who wish to specialise in another clinical area – for example psychosis or personality presentations.

This PG Certificate comprises a programme of taught material from optional modules, and usually commences in October or January each year.  Supervision takes place in groups of 3 students for 90 minutes, usually on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday morning.    Teaching will be shared with students from other programmes.

Clinical Responsibility (all programmes except PG Cert in CBT (Theory Only))

You will continue to have clinical responsibility for any cases you bring to university supervision, and the duty of care to your clients lies with you and the service in which you are working.  You will need to provide a letter from your line manager accepting that clinical responsibility remains with you as the responsible clinician under whatever arrangements pertain in your Trust.  Please provide the CBT administator with a copy of this letter by the start of the programme.
