Format and Referencing: Education Assignments

With all coursework assignments, you should check in the module specifications/handbook, or with the relevant Module Lead, for any specific requirements for your coursework. It is essential that your coursework assignments fulfill these requirements so your final assessment mark is not affected.

Typically, we expect the following:

  • Word processing for Essays: You should type up a coursework essay on computer as an electronic file, using a standard word processing package, such as Microsoft Word.
  • Style and format: In all of your coursework in your Education modules, you will be expected to use the Harvard referencing style.

You will be informed of other specific formatting requirements that you are expected to adhere to in your coursework.

Referencing: Harvard

You are expected to use the Harvard referencing style in your written assignments for your Education modules.

As a Year One, BSc Education and Psychology student, you will be taught the Harvard format and referencing style during your academic skills module, EDUC1060 Researching Learning.

Outside of this module, the Hartley Library holds a number of resources that can support you in citing sources correctly in-text and in your Reference List/Bibliography.

The Library also provides a list of online resources for Harvard referencing. Please click here.
