Unique work experience for budding doctors

LifeLab is proud to be helping to coordinate this fantastic work experience opportunity in collaboration with the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

Are you in Year 12 (aged 17) and interested in becoming a doctor?

Are you applying to study medicine at University?

Are you interested in a work experience placement in a hospital?

If so then apply for this unique programme which will provide you with information on a career in medicine, help you to develop transferable skills and provide you with information to support your application to university.

 The programme includes:

·         A Pre-placement workshop on 16th July 2019 including ethical issues and practical advice on how to get the most out of the placement.

·         2 day placements between 17th and 22nd July at University Hospital Southampton.

·         A Post-placement workshop to reflect on what you have learnt and how this can help you with your application to medical school.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must provide a statement to outline why they think they are suitable to participate in the programme.

In addition applicants should meet a minimum of 2 Widening Participation eligibility criteria:

·  Parents, guardian or self in receipt of a means-tested benefit

·  In the first generation of my immediate family to apply to higher education

·  Young people looked after by a Local Authority

·  In receipt of a 16-19 bursary or similar grant

·  In receipt of free school meals at any point in Years 10-12

·  Living in an area with a postcode which falls within the lowest 20 per cent of the Index of Multiple Deprivation, or a member of a travelling family.

If offered a place on the Hospital Work Experience Programme, reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed.
