The University of Southampton Student Chapter of the Optical Society of America (OSA) was established by research students at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) in 1994, making it the first ever international student chapter of the OSA.
The OSA Student Chapter was initiated to form a network of research students within the ORC and also to enhance communication with external bodies. The history of the University of Southampton OSA Student Chapter is studded with achievements and successes.
In 2001, 2002 and 2011 the Chapter won the OSA Student Chapter Recruitment Contest by holding recruitment centred events to increase our membership.
In 2001, 2007, 2009 and 2010 we were awarded the Excellence Award for “Best OSA Student Chapter”.
The Chapter has proved its commitment towards academic, educational and social outreach by promoting and running a series of activities and events which has involved the whole graduate community and much more.
