As the world marks International Women’s Day, we asked the women behind LifeLab what continues to inspire them in their work
Here’s what they had to say…..
“I like teaching something worthwhile. When students have spent the day with us and reflect on their health and want to genuinely make some lifestyle changes to improve their health, I know we are making a difference.”
– Donna Lovelock
“Recognising how infrequently children are included in conversations about how to tackle the challenges facing them, I am inspired by the opportunities to put children at the heart of what we do, listen to them and value the power they have to come up with the solutions they need live healthier lives now and for their futures.”
– Dr Kathryn Woods-Townsend
“I’ve noticed the representation of women at my level decreasing as I’ve got more senior, but I hope the tide is turning. Women often provide the glue in teams, and, in multi-disciplinary research, that’s such a vital role”
– Prof Hazel Inskip
“I love training science teachers in behaviour change skills to support pupils to live healthier lives, by changing their diet or exercise behaviours, as I know this has the most potential for building a stronger, healthier next generation.
– Dr Wendy Lawrence
“I love seeing the expressions change on the students faces, when they realise how their own lifestyle choices can effect their health, it makes me feel privileged to be part of the LifeLab team.’
– Dr Lisa Bagust
“Seeing what young women can achieve, often in difficult circumstances, inspires me in my work to find ways of supporting them to eat better and exercise more. Young women are the future!”
– Dr Mary Barker
“I am so proud to have been involved in a project that empowers young people to make scientifically literate decisions about their health and to assess for themselves the often contradictory messages they receive from the wider world.”
