Having problems with the wordpress admin menu?

A recent bug in chrome (I couldn’t believe it either) has resulted in some versions of the browser not rendering the black wordpress admin menu correctly.

If you’re seeing strange things happening to the text and/or missing links, you can get a fix by doing the following:

1. Copy the following into your chrome browser bar and hit enter:
chrome://flags/#disable-slimming-paint

2. Click on the ‘Enable’ link underneath the very first option

3. Click the button to restart chrome

If you need further help please call me directly on 07779 606934

Thanks!

Alex

New plugins update

Dear eFolio wordpress users,

We’ve recently updated some of our plugins, including the “Ultimate Tiny MCE” that was used on approx 30 sites. This recent update added some unwanted messages / functionality and so we have deactivated that plugin and instead installed the ‘Tiny MCE Advanced’ plugin which does the same job but better.

Thereforem if you previously had the Ultimate Teiny MCE plugin please activate the new one (Tiny MCE Advanced) to restore that functionality.

Many thanks,

Alex and the eFolio team

Medical Students – how to fix your journal

If you are a medical student you may have noticed that your private journal is currently broken. Please note that none of your journal entries have been lost!

In the meantime, if you wish to fix your journal before we figure out a bulk ‘fix the problem’ please follow the instructions below

1. Login to eFolio as normal

2. In the address bar of your browser copy and paste the following:
https://www.efolio.soton.ac.uk/blog/your-username/wp-admin/themes.php

Replace the your-username bit with your username e.g. if your username is abcd1234, the address should read:
https://www.efolio.soton.ac.uk/blog/abcd1234/wp-admin/themes.php

3. Look for the third big box which says ‘Medicine’ (check it has a capital M) – move your mouse over the box and click on ‘Activate’

This should restore your journal and all reflective entries.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

We are implementing several new features, as well as upgrading the wordpress element to v 4.0. If you have any questions or concerns please email alexfurr@soton.ac.uk

A full list of features is described below

New Features

1. WordPress upgrade to v 4.o.

For more information on this watch the video!

2. LinkedIn Integration

cv_icon

You can now integrate your linkedin profile with your eFolio profile. This allows you to display your LinkedIn CV / profile in your wordpress ePortfolio, or request feedback from your personal tutor about your CV.

3. Graduation Pack

This new feature aimed at graduating students allows them to create a personalised PDF download that highlights all their accomplishments during their time at the University.

You can choose from a selection of styles, embed your LinkedIn CV, list your modules and grades, assignments, skills and competencies and other achievements.

4. Other tweaks / changes

  • For staff, if you are using the skills and competencies application for skills audit, you can now choose to hide the ‘percent complete’ graph from students, as this is not applicable in this situation
  • We’ve implemented a new PGCE wordpress theme aimed at PGCE students. This includes targets and action plans and weekly reviews. Only use this if you are enrolled on a PGCE course!

If you’d like more information on any of these changes / new features please get in touch.

Alex and the eFolio team.

Because of this new feature we will be retiring the ‘My Resume’ feature from eFolio.

 Mozilla Open Badges Integration

Students can then display this badge in their backpack, or as part of their ePortfolio of graduation report pack (see below).
