Programme Overview

The MSc Foundations of Clinical Psychology is a full-time programme extending over one full calendar year. The Programme Director aims to keep teaching to 2 days a week during term times, with the recognition that students may be expected to attendĀ on other teaching days and to meet with their Research Supervisors. Students are expected to balance the heavy demands of the academic programme with any placements/jobs they undertake.
The programme at Southampton is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to critically evaluate the application of psychological theory and evidence, develop effective working relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds and practise and evaluate basic therapeutic interventions and develop leadership and management abilities.

The research requirement of the programme links to the academic components and culminates in the preparation of a research dissertation that aims to address an issue relevant to Clinical Psychology. Supervision of the dissertation is provided by the Department of Psychology.
