Welcome…

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the University of Southampton, the Faculty of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences and the BSc Education and Psychology programme.

This is your Undergraduate Handbook for the BSc in Education and Psychology, for students who started their course before 2016/17. If you started in 2016/17 or after please click here. The information contained in the handbook has been designed to complement the information provided on EduNet and your Module Course pages on Blackboard (your staff-student portal). It aims to provide you with key information relating to your degree and your three years of study. It has been designed to give you an overview of the procedures, regulations and information sources that you will need to know. The programme is administered within the Southampton Education School. However, the handbook reflects on the procedures and regulations in both the Education and Psychology Academic Units. It is important that you familiarise yourself with the information that it contains and that you explore the contents of the handbook as a whole.

British Psychological Society (BPS) Accreditation

The degree in Education and Psychology is accredited by the British Psychological Society. If you meet the requirements, the degree can give you Graduate Membership and Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the BPS. Your handbook will guide you on how to attain BPS accreditation. You can access a BPS Accreditation page by clicking here.

It is important to note that you do not have to make any decisions about attaining eligibility for GBC until the end of Year One. Then, you will decide whether or not to take the accredited pathway. It is important to note that there are other routes available to acquire accreditation after your undergraduate studies, so any decision you make is not irreversible. Your decision does not affect the degree that you are awarded by the University of Southampton. It may be worth your while reading about the benefits of BPS membership, to help your decision process.
